WOODLAWN, Tenn. (Oct 17, 2009) – The Emmy-award winning hit ABC television show, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” is using Huber Engineered Woods LLC’s ZIP System® roof and wall sheathing and AdvanTech® flooring to construct a home for a deserving family in Clarksville, Tenn. as part of season seven, themed “Get on the Bus.” The ZIP System roof and wall sheathing and AdvanTech flooring feature superior moisture resistance and quick installation properties that will help Duncan & Duncan successfully complete the home in just one week.

The lucky area family was recently surprised by a visit from Ty Pennington, team leader for the show when the family’s identity was made public. Construction on the home is underway and will conclude with the show’s “reveal” when Pennington recites the show’s signature phrase, “Move that bus!” ZIP System roof and wall sheathing and AdvanTech flooring will be installed on Oct. 19.

After being used on several episodes last season, Huber Engineered Woods will join “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” to make ZIP System roof and wall sheathing and AdvanTech flooring its preferred structural products season seven.

ZIP System® Roof Sheathing

ZIP System® roof panels have a built-in moisture barrier and eliminate the need for felt paper and H-clips. A code-recognized structural panel and underlayment all-in-one, ZIP System roof panels prevent expensive rework due to torn felt, and shingles or tiles can be applied directly to the panels. Since ZIP System roof sheathing is faster to install than traditional methods and provides an instant 120-day rough dry-in, builders can schedule subcontractors sooner, ultimately completing the house in less time. For more information, visit www.zipsystem.com.

ZIP System® Wall Sheathing

The ZIP System® wall sheathing with a built-in water-resistive barrier is a structural wall panel, moisture barrier and air barrier all-in-one, providing a tight building envelope and superior moisture resistance during and after the construction. The Department of Energy recognizes that air barriers help prevent air leakage in homes, which can account for 30 percent or more of a home’s heating and cooling costs.   ZIP System® tape is used on both the roof and wall products and provides moisture resistance for seams, valleys and ridges, can help reduce air leaks as recommended by the Seal and Insulate with the ENERGY STAR® effort, and is code recognized as window and door flashing tape when used with ZIP System wall sheathing (ESR-2227). For more information, visit www.zipsystem.com.

AdvanTech Flooring

AdvanTech flooring has greater water resistance, design bending strength and stiffness than commodity oriented strand board (OSB) and plywood, providing superior quality and the best warranty in the business – a limited 50-year transferable warranty and a 300-day no-sanding guarantee. AdvanTech flooring has fastening guide marks and self-spacing tongue and groove for easy installation. For more information, visit www.advantechperforms.com.

Duncan & Duncan, subcontractors and vendors are providing services and materials on a donated basis as part of the build. To learn more about this makeover, visit www.extremevolunteer.com.

Scott Family Selected For Extreme Makeover Build

scottfamily“EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION” LENDS A HELPING HAND TO A SINGLE MOTHER WHO LOST THE LOVE OF HER LIFE IN A SUDDEN AND TRAGIC ACCIDENT BUT FOUND INSPIRATION IN THE ORGANIZATION THAT HELPED HER THROUGH IT ALL

On October 17, 2009, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” travels to Woodlawn, Tennessee in Montgomery County, to give Trina Scott and her three daughters the good news that their problem-ridden home will be rebuilt.

Trina, 44, met her husband David while he was serving with the United States Army Special Forces in Fort Bragg – and it was love at first sight.  After his discharge, David became a Clarksville police officer.  In 2002, David and his partner were on-duty when their police car was violently struck by a truck.  The car spun out of control, hit a guardrail, caught fire, and killed both David and his partner almost instantly.  Overwhelmed with grief, Trina turned to a group called Concerns of Police Survivors, Inc. (C.O.P.S.), which helps the surviving family members of officers killed in the line of duty.    Inspired by the help she received from C.O.P.S., Trina devoted all of her free time to the organization and became its President in 2003.  The time that Trina dedicates to C.O.P.S. is essentially a full-time job, on top of the regular job she works to support her three daughters: Leyla, 17, Deidie, 13, and Alethea, 11.  Trina has spent more than $20,000 to try to fix the mounting repairs to her small home, but the structural problems caused by termites and water damage remain.

The Scott Family will go on vacation to Disneyland while “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” team leader Ty Pennington, designers Michael Moloney, Paige Hemmis, and John Littlefield, local builders Duncan & Duncan and Singletary Construction, and community volunteers rebuild their home.

The location address is: The Scott Family 2030 Edna Lane, Woodlawn, TN 37191.

The series is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It is executive-produced by Anthony Dominici. David Goldberg is Chairman, Endemol North America.

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is broadcast with Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning.  A TV parental guideline will be posted closer to airdate.

Local Builders Partner in Effort to Help Deserving Family

Duncan & Duncan Construction and Singletary Construction are partnering to join ABC’s Extreme Makover: Home Edition for an upcoming build in the Middle Tennessee area later this month.

The two Clarksville construction companies were chosen by the popular ABC television program to oversee and implement the intense one-week building of a new home that will change the lives of a deserving Middle Tennessee family.

Five Middle Tennessee area families are being considered for the makeover, but only one will be chosen on the Morning of October 17 for Ty Pennington’s life-changing “door knock."

The construction companies of Duncan & Duncan, led by Don R. Duncan, of Clarksville, and Singletary Construction, owned by Bert Singletary, were selected because of their track record in construction and their willingness to dedicate personal effort to help others.  Both companies focus on quality construction and special details to make their construction projects unique.

With this 106-hour construction project, the new home will be truly unique as all products and labor must be donated by businesses and individuals in the area.  Hundreds of volunteers will be needed for the project from October 17 through October 24.

As with all homes in Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, special details will be incorporated into the design of the home to meet particular needs of the selected family.

The companies are requesting volunteers from the area to provide time, support and resource to contribute to the success of this life-changing project.  If you are intersted in offering your support or volunteering your time please visit our get involved page or click here.
